Alison Duncan was the 2006 Green Party candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York and the first openly gay candidate for a gubernatorial office in New York. One of the main issues in Duncan's campaign for lieutenant governor was the health and safety of the LGBT community, as well as the population at large. Another priority of her campaign was equal rights for LGBT people. She supports the legalization of gay marriage and the rights of LGBT people, relationships, and families to enjoy the same rights and freedoms as the heterosexual population. Duncan also speaks on labor, education, immigration, and health care.
Duncan, who grew up in Schenectady, NY, graduated with a BA in economics and a BFA in musical theater from the University of Hartford and the Hartt School of Music in 1998. She recently received the Anchor Award from the University of Hartford College of Arts and Sciences for exceptional leadership and commitment to community. After graduation, she moved to New York City and spent the next five years involved in off-off-Broadway theater. She was a member and a board member of the Women's One World (WOW) Caf?? Theater where she wrote, directed and produced work that addressed transgender issues, racism, immigration and domestic violence. Duncan currently lives in NYC and is employed as a union audiovisual technician at a midtown hotel, also serving as a delegate in the New York Hotel Trades Council. She is enrolled in the post-baccalaureate premed program at City College and works as a volunteer in the rape crisis program and child psychiatric unit at St. Vincent's hospital in Manhattan. She speaks to groups and teaches workshops for activists on managing stress and avoiding burnout. Back
