MEDIA ADVISORY
The Georgia Green Party will join other organizations with the Concerned Coalition to Respect Prisoners' Rights at a press conference, Thursday, January 6th, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Georgia State Capitol, 206 Washington Street; Atlanta Georgia.
The Party earlier published a letter addressed to the incoming and outgoing Governors seeking answers on whether the Department of Corrections participated in a criminal conspiracy to conceal Terrance Dean who was reportedly beaten by state employees while incarcerated at Macon State Prison near Oglethorpe Georgia.
Since then stories of additional abuses at Smith Prison and elsewhere have come to light and Mr. Dean has been able to visit with a member of his family and an attorney.
The Concerned Coalition has been able to make two visits into DoC facilities to date. After each visit, inmates at those facilities were subjected to brutal beatings, apparently by state employees.
Members of the the coalition's fact finding teams will be on hand to make a report and respond to questions from the media.
