WHAT:
A public forum on the crisis in Gaza
WHO:
Organized by members of the Westside Green Party local of Manhattan
WHERE:
The Assembly Hall at Judson Memorial Church, 239 Thompson St., South of Washington Square Park in Manhattan
WHEN:
Saturday, March 7, 2009, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
SUMMARY:
To bear witness to the attack on the Palestinian people in Gaza, and to suggest viable solutions to this tragic conflict.
Israel's three-week attack on Gaza, during December 2008 and January 2009, left over 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis dead, and thousands of Gazans wounded. The bombardment demolished much of the infrastructure in Gaza, with schools, hospitals and mosques destroyed. Many people became, and still are, homeless. The population - already scrambling for the necessities of life because of the ongoing blockade by Israel - is now even more desperate for food, water and electricity.
Members of the Green Party invite New Yorkers to attend a forum that will examine the truth about this conflict and suggest possible solutions. Scheduled speakers include: Prof. Joel Kovel, author of the book "Overcoming Zionism"; Riham Barghouti of Adalah-NY and the Coalition for Justice in the Middle East; Nellie Hester Bailey of the Harlem Anti-War Coalition and Dorothy Zellner, member of Jews Say No. A variety of viewpoints and perspectives on the issue will be encouraged.
