The Bronx County Green Party (BCGP) announced today that it has endorsed Bronx Community Board 9 member Walter Nestler as the Green Party candidate for City Council in the Bronx' 18th Council District. Mr. Nestler will make a public announcement of his intention to run later today at the Bronx Parks Speak Up at Herbert Lehman College.
"We're pleased that Mr. Nestler has chosen to run as a Green", said BCGP Chair Carl Lundgren. "His dedication to the community and desire to improve social and environmental conditions is in accord with the Green Party principles of Democracy, Justice, Ecology and Nonviolence", he added.
Nestler initially announced his decision to run at a Bronx County Green Party meeting to which he was invited this past Wednesday, saying "It's time to start improving and strengthening our community by rejecting the business-as-usual' approach of our current elected officials. We can't allow the East Bronx to continue to be the city's dumping ground."
In addition to serving on CB9, Nestler, a third generation resident of Clason Point, is a self-employed, registered landscape architect and community organizer.
