it. The Greens did just that when the party took out a full-page advertisement
in the Times that ran November 16, the party's first-ever paid ad in a national
publication.

After the closeness (and controversy) of the 2000 presidential election and the
Green's role in it, 2004 presented the most difficult organizing climate yet for
the Green Party in the United States. But despite this challenge, Greens by the
end of 2004 had garnered record numbers of elected officials and registered
party members across the United States.
John Eder Returns to Maine State Legislature

Making U.S. electoral history on November 2, John Eder became the first U.S.
Green state legislator to be re-elected, winning Maine State House District 118
with 51 percent of the vote.

California Greens ran a record 87 candidates in 2004, with 19 victories,
including 76 candidates and 16 victories in the November elections. As a result,
there are now 68 California Greens holding elected office statewide, an all-time
state Green Party high.
