Summary of Relevant Work and Education Experience

Throughout the sixties, I was involved in numerous actions against the war in Vietnam, actions such as weekly picketing of March AFB (Riverside, CA) and voter registration drives in Salinas, California.† In the early '70's, I worked as an organizer for the United Farmworkers Union (King City, California), and in the Congressional campaign of Julian Camacho, a Chicano (Monterey County). Other activities included working for the Friends Committee on Legislation (Sacramento), sitting-in at the ROTC building at UC Davis (spring, 1970) fund-raising for the Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi.† Recently, I have been involved in organizing online against the use by the US and Israel of depleted uranium (DU) and other radiological and chemical weapons in the Middle East.† I have a Yahoo! group (American Conscience) devoted to organizing on these and other issues of American abuses of power.

I was graduated in history from UC Davis.† (B.A. History, 1978).† My studies in modern history were concentrated in (1) American labor history, and (2) history of colonialism in the Third World (specifically China, Africa and Latin America).† I worked for twenty years as a teacher (elementary and ESL) and teacher-librarian in the Morongo USD, California, and in E. Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have certification in Teaching ESL (UC Riverside,1987) and a Master's in Library Science (LSU, 2000).

This is only a partial listing of activities I have been engaged in with implications beyond our borders.† I have also been involved in numerous nonviolent civil rights actions, and in organizing events such as the march on Sacramento in support of People's Park (May, 1969).

I have been married to an Egyptian-American for more than thirty years and have traveled in Egypt five times.† I have also traveled to a lesser extent in Europe, and to Saudi Arabia as a pilgrim.† I have a limited understanding of French, German, Spanish and Arabic.

I am currently retired, and am free to devote as much time as needed to this work. I think we need to strengthen coordination and cooperation between national Green Parties, and I will be honored to be able to work toward this end.† I feel I have something of a "vested interest" in communicating with Green Parties in the Arab World, and I also think that our IC would benefit from greater awareness, and communication with, Green Parties in the Far East.

Proposal

The NC confirms GPUS delegate ROMI ELNAGR (LA) to the Global Green Network (GGN), elected by the IC, March 2011.
