

Tanya Ishikawa, 42, is a City Councilmember representing Ward 1 of Federal Heights,just north of Denver. With a passion for community and cultural involvement, she serves on the Northmoor Homeowners Association Board, Denver Open Media public access TV station board, and Denver Foundation Marketing and Communications Committee. She is an active member of the Green Party, an alternative to the two major political parties, which focuses on grassroots democracy and sustainable, community-based governance and economics.
Ishikawa is a multimedia communicator, with her own small business, Buffalo Trails Multimedia Services. An award-winning professional journalist and screenwriter, she has experience and expertise in writing for various formats from newspapers and magazines to web sites andfilm. Sheis an accomplishedvideo/tv/film producer, and produces and edits a monthly TV show called In the Loop: Colorado Filmmaking.She is also the part-timeadministrator for the Denver UrbanSpectrum's blog site SpectrumTalk and social network ConnectMe.
She is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Colorado Press Association, Colorado Association of Black Journalists, Colorado Film and Video Association, Colorado Actors and Screenwriters Assembly, and Denver Film Society.
Other major professional experiences include working as supervisor of the international public relations department at Kites Corporation in Tokyo, Japan, and operating Buffalo Trails tour company where she guided international guests to Native American communities. Ishikawa is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, and is an avid travelerwho has visited at least 40 of the United States and 11 countries.
