presidential preference
method of determining the will of the state by polling the state membership regarding preferences for president. The Green Party has 6 state-run primaries (Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., West Virginia and Arkansas). Other states send mail ballots to their membership. Some states use a system of local caucuses.
delegate selection
method of selecting delegates to represent the will of the state
delegate instruction
method of instructing and binding delegates to the will of the state
rules
state rules (party rules or state law) for determining presidential preference, delegate selection and delegate instruction
convention
statewide meeting for presidential preference balloting, selection or instruction of delegates or some combination of the three.
caucus
in some states, local meetings where presidential preference votes are cast
balloting
generic term used to refer to caucus votes, mail ballots or convention votes, particularly if method is unknown
